Chirico was a member of an Italian splinter group of artists which baptized its works of art as “pittura metafisica”, i.e. pictures beyond reality. His most famous work, “The Disquieting Muses”, created in 1916/17, is also the favourite picture of the father who is portrayed here carrying his new-born daughter in his arms. His muse of 2003. The counter pattern completing this Chirico update is on the backside of the canvas.
